15 new Covid-19 cases in PH; total now at 217

THE number of confirmed cases of coronavirus disease (Covid-19) in the Philippines rose to 217, with 15 new cases announced Thursday, March 19.

The Department of Health (DOH) also announced one new recovery, bringing the total number of those who have recovered from the disease caused by the new coronavirus to eight.

The patient (PH) who recovered from Covid-19 was PH20, a 48-year-old Filipino male from Cavite who had travel history to Japan. He was admitted at the Research Institute for Tropical Medicine on March 7, but was already discharged after testing negative for Covid-19 twice.

The health department's Covid-19 tracker showed that of the 15 new cases, five are admitted at the Chinese General Hospital and Medical Center (PH209, PH210, PH211, PH212 and PH213); four at The Medical City-Ortigas (PH203, PH205, PH206 and PH207); two at the Philippine Heart Center (PH208 and PH215); two at the Cardinal Santos Medical Center (PH216 and PH217); and one each at the Manila Doctors Hospital (PH204) and Capitol Medical Center (PH214).

The youngest of these new cases is PH212, a 21-year-old Filipino male, while the oldest is PH210, an 82-year-old Filipino male.

The DOH said contact tracing for all new cases is ongoing.

On Wednesday, March 18, the health department also reported 15 positive case of Covid-19. It also reported three more deaths, bringing the mortality count to 17.

No new death was reported Thursday, but the DOH clarified that PH57, a 65-year-old Filipino male who died on March 17, is from Bulacan, not Pasig City, as earlier announced.

"While the Case Investigation Form of the patient stated he lived in Pasig City, upon further validation, it was found that it is a family member of his who lives there," the DOH said in a bulletin. (LMY/SunStar Philippines)
