16-year-old nabbed for stealing P100,000 worth of jewelry

A GRADE 11 student was arrested by police for stealing more than P100,000 worth of jewelry around 1 a.m. Friday, September 30, 2022, in Barangay Poblacion, Borbon, Cebu.

The 16-year-old suspect (name withheld for being a minor) was nabbed Friday noon after the witness, Johanna Fiel Mundo, 31, a vendor, pointed at him as the person who asked her to pawn the jewelry.

The victim was identified as Danafe Mangubat Simien, 39.

Police Staff Sergeant Ernesto Pablo, of Borbon Police Station, told Superbalita Cebu that Mundo was caught pawning the jewelries upon the order of the suspect.

Mundo said the suspect promised her money if the jewelry is pawned.

Among those recovered were a Saudi Gold ring worth P8,000 and an engagement ring diamond worth P120,000.

The suspect was able to gain access to the victim’s house through the window.

He was turned over by police to the Department of Social Welfare and Development for custody. (GPL/LMY)
