1st day of Cebu City Jail visitation dry run goes smoothly

MORE than 200 visitors showed up during the start of the four-day dry run of face-to-face visitations at the Cebu City Jail (CCJ) that started on Tuesday, November 29, 2022.

JO3 Blanche Aliño, spokesperson of CCJ, which is located in Barangay Kalunasan, said no untoward incident was recorded on the first day of the dry run.

The dry run runs until Saturday, December 3, from 1 p.m. until 5 p.m., except Friday, which is a cleanup day inside the jail.

Aliño said the visitors were able to exchange pleasantries with their loved ones inside the jail for longer hours.

The visitors were all vaccinated, with two senior citizens fully vaccinated.

However, some of them were rejected by the guards as they presented an expired identification cards or IDs.

"Wala gyud nakasulod sir so amo silang gipahibalo nga sa sunod nga moanhi sila kanang ID gyud nga dili expire ang ilang pangdalhon," Aliño said.

(They were not able to enter, so we informed them to bring an ID that is not expired yet when they come back.)

"Duna man to mga ni inquire nga pwede raba maka duaw kon walay vaccine card maka duaw raba? Pero ako silang giingnan nga kinahanglan mo undergo sila ug swab test pero so far wala may na cater ang atong mag swab sa unang adlaw," said Aliño.

(Some inquired if they can visit even without presenting a vaccination card. I told them that they should undergo a swab test but so far nobody on the first day of the visitation availed of the test.)

The jail personnel are hoping that visitors will comply with the vaccination requirements since 98 percent of the inmates are already vaccinated against the coronavirus disease (Covid-19), while only two percent are not. (BBT, TPT)
