ELEVEN persons in one of Liloan town’s mountain barangays were caught holding an illegal cockfight on Saturday afternoon, Nov. 21, 2020.

Operatives of the Provincial Intelligence Unit (PIU) will file charges against them and the two active police officers who allegedly organized the event.

The PIU team went to Barangay Lataban around 2:45 p.m. after it received information that two police officers had organized a cockfight in the area.

Taken into custody were Kurt Russel Gemina, Anthony Laygan, Alvin Noval, Kevin Tagalog, Allan Noval, Jonas Tanjay, Rogelio Bohol, Jomar Pitogo, Mario Dayday, El Niño Pando and Wilfredo Maglasang.

Some of them reportedly fell off a short cliff while trying to elude arrest.

The two police officers who allegedly organized the cockfight were able to get away, said Lt. Randy Korret, PIU chief.

Korret said they were able to identify the two police officers.

SunStar Cebu is withholding their names until criminal and administrative charges are filed against them.

Korret said they will go after the two police officers whose actions go against the directive of newly appointed Philippine National Police (PNP) Chief Gen. Debold Sinas, who was in Cebu on Saturday.

Sinas has vowed to conduct an internal cleansing in the PNP to rid the organization of police officers involved in criminal activities. (AYB / JKV)
