AT least two persons drowned in separate incidents in Cebu on Sunday, July 31, 2022.

In Sitio Dubai, Barangay Dumlog, Toledo City, midwest Cebu, a 31-year-old man drowned after being swept away by a strong ocean current around 2:50 p.m.

Friends tried to revive the victim, Kent Joan Dacuyan Disoyo, married, of Purok 4, Barangay Carmen, Toledo, after being rescued but failed.

Staff Sergeant Roy Olasiman of Toledo Police Station, said the victim was having a picnic in the area with his family when the incident took place.

Disoyo was declared on arrival at the hospital.

In Barangay Salag, Tabogon town, northern Cebu, a 13-year-old boy drowned while swimming in the sea around 3:50 p.m.

AJ Nemenzo, a Grade 7 student from Sitio Sambag, Barangay Dakit, Bogo City, was already dead when found around 7 p.m. on the same day.

Corporal Dan Bernard Navarro of Tabogon Police Station said in an interview with SunStar that the victim might have experienced muscle cramp while swimming causing him to drown.

Navarro said the victim was last seen enjoying swimming alone and kept on transfering from the sea cliff to the shoreline and back.

But all of a sudden he disappeared, prompting some residents to search for him with the help of Tabogon Police Station and the municipality's Disaster Risk Reduction Management Office (DRRMO) and barangay officials.

The victim was finally found at 7 p.m. and was brought to the Cebu Provincial Hospital in Bogo, where he was declared dead. (GPL, TPT)
