TWO fishermen were arrested for illegally fishing in the seawaters of Barangay Hagdan, San Fe town, Bantayan Island, on Tuesday morning, June 21, 2022.

Corporal Raffy Joventud of Santa Fe Police Station identified those arrested as Antonio Dice, 39, and Judy Arban, 40, both from Victorias City, Negros Occidental.

Joventud told SunStar Cebu that the sea patrol officers were conducting a seaborne operation when they caught Dice and Arban fishing in the area without a permit.

The fish catch of the two fishermen weighing around 100 kilos were given to the jail personnel of Santa Fe for the inmates feeding and to the residents of Barangay Hagdan, according to Joventud.

Dice and Arban told the police that their permit is still being processed and has not been released yet.

Joventud also said that on June 22, 2022, they will formally file the case against Dice and Arban.

The suspects are currently detained at the Santa Fe Police Station and will face charges for violation of Republic Act 10654 or An Act to Prevent, Deter and Eliminate Illegal, Unreported and Unregulated Fishing. (GDC, TPT)
