2 leaders of youth gangs in Talisay City under arrest, to face gun possession raps

POLICE arrested the leaders of two youth gangs on Monday, Oct. 3, 2022, after they were involved in a deadly commotion in Barangay Linao, Talisay City on Sunday night, Oct. 2, 2022.

Lt. Col. Randy Caballes, chief of the Talisay City Police Station, identified them as Mark Mitchell Fernandez Canillo, a resident of Barangay Maghaway, and Jay-R Dungog Caballero, a resident of Sitio Mananga, Barangay Tabunok.

Both suspects were caught in a warrant-less operation.

Caballes said Canillo is the founder of the Batang Maghaway 16 Gang, while Caballero is the founder of the Batang Dike Gang.

Both men are 18 years old.

According to Caballes, the two groups have been at odds with each other for quite some time. When members met at a disco in Barangay Linao last Sunday night, trouble ensued.

What started as a shouting match escalated into a chase along N. Bacalso Avenue, with some members throwing bottles at each other, Caballes said.

He said a minor who was involved in the melee was killed when he was struck by a motorcycle driven by Greg Adlawan.

After they were arrested, Caballes said Canillo and Caballero each yielded a .38 revolver and some bullets.

The two are currently detained at the Talisay City Police Station.

They will be charged with violation of Republic Act 10591, or the Comprehensive Firearms and Ammunition Regulation Act. (BBT / PJB)
