2 men tagged in Akrho member’s death in Camotes rumble to face murder rap

A MEMBER of the Alpha Kappa Rho (Akrho) fraternity was killed during a rumble in Barangay Northern Poblacion, San Francisco in the Camotes Islands, Cebu, in the early hours of Wednesday, October 26, 2022.

The victim was identified as 21-year-old Insohannes Otida Bancale, a resident of Barangay Cabunga-an in the same town.

Corporal Elijah Pareja, investigator of the San Francisco Police Station, said they are looking for two men who were tagged as responsible for his death.

He identified them as Kevin Luke Baring Abangan, 19, and John Bert Almacin Elaida, 22. Both are students and residents of Sitio Pamatasan, Barangay North Poblacion.

Pareja said Bancale was attending a foam party in Barangay North Poblacion, which is celebrating its annual fiesta on Friday, October 28.

Around 1 a.m., a commotion broke out between his group and the suspects’ group, which escalated to violence. The rumble spilled out onto the street where Bancale was singled out by Abangan and Elaida.

"Kini si Kevin (Abangan), ma daw ni midungab sa biktima. Unya Si Jonh Bert (Elaida) ang mitiwas sa pagkuta ingon ato saksi," Pareja said.

(According to witnesses, Kevin was the one who stabbed the victim. Then John Bert finished him off by beating him.)

Pareja said the suspects were arrested during a follow-up operation in the neighboring town of Pilar around 8:30 p.m. on Wednesday.

When questioned, Abangan and Elaida said they didn’t have any hand in Bancale’s death. They said they were just mistaken for killing him.

However, witnesses said otherwise.

Paraja said several persons were involved in the rumble and they have yet to identify all of them.

As for Abangan and Elaida, he said they will be charged with murder. (GPL)
