Barangays Cabangan and Polog received the recognition during the municipality's Strengthening Barangay Anti-Drug Abuse Council Functionality and Barangay Drug Clearing Program Awards led by Consolacion Mayor Teresa "Nene" Alegado on Tuesday, July 12, 2022.

Earlier, barangays Panas, Panoypoy, Lanipga, Lamac, and Sacsac in Consolacion also received the same recognition after being cleared of drugs.

In an interview with SunStar Cebu on Wednesday, July 13, barangay captains Edwin Miñoza of Barangay Cabangahan and Glenn Reuyan of Polog shared their efforts in achieving the drug-cleared status.

Both village chiefs stated that they had given high importance to rehabilitation and giving livelihood assistance to their drug surrenderers to attain such status.

Also, in Mandaue City, three out of its drug-cleared barangays received a P500,000 cash reward from the city government.

The city has nine drug cleared barangays namely Basak, Casili, Paknaan, Tabok, Opao, Bakilid, Tawason, Tingub, and Subangdaku.

During their regular session on Monday, July 11, the city government of Mandaue has given guidelines for the money based on an approved resolution, stressing it should be utilized, specifically in the livelihood aftercare of the drug surrenderers. (HIC)
