2 ‘notorious’ thieves in Mactan Island fall in entrapment operation

TWO suspected thieves were arrested by police in Cordova town, Mactan Island, Cebu on Saturday afternoon, December 3, 2022.

They were identified as James Jaymar Intong Oyad, 22, and 16-year-old Dodong (real name withheld for being a minor), both residents of Barangay Marigondon in neighboring Lapu-Lapu City.

According to Major Michael Gingoyon, chief of the Cordova Police Station, they received a complaint from Hazeljane Obsid, a 33-year-old resident of Sitio Panagdait, Barangay Ibabao in the town, that her two cellphones and a wristwatch had gone missing.

She said somebody had found them and told her she could have them back in exchange for P10,000.

However, she believed they were responsible for the theft.

Gingoyon said they decided to conduct an entrapment.

Obsid contacted the suspects and told them she was willing to give them the money.

After Oyad and Dodong were arrested, police recovered Obsid’s two cellphones and wristwatch, as well as two other cellphones and a laptop that they believed were also stolen.

Meanwhile, Gingoyon said both suspects have police records and described them as notorious thieves in Cordova and Lapu-Lapu City.

The police chief said operatives of the Criminal Investigation and Detection Group Central Visayas had arrested the 16-year-old for a similar case. (BBT)
