Elections 2013: Comelec partial official results #purplethumb

Tally as of 129 COCs (39,898,992) canvassed

Two candidates from the United Nationalist Alliance (UNA) continue to tail each other in the Commission on Elections (Comelec)’s senatorial count.

In its 16th update released at 5:35 pm on Saturday, Comelec – sitting as National Board of Canvassers (NBOC) – revealed that Honasan is still at the 12th and last spot of the winning circle.

The latest tally showed Honasan receiving a total of 13,070,031 votes while his ally, former Senator Richard “Dick” Gordon, continues to lag behind with 12,364,091 remaining at 13th spot.

Honasan’s counsel, lawyer Romulo Macalintal, expressed confidence that his client will not lose in the 2013 senatorial race.

“He is staying at a comfortable position,” Macalintal told reporters.

However, the elections lawyer lamented how UNA candidates are hoping to get inside the Magic 12 at the expense of their ally in the opposition.

Honasan and Gordon have been switching places in the 12th and 13th spot for days since the canvassing started on Monday evening.

Meanwhile, former Las Pinas Rep. Cynthia Villar is glued at the 10th spot after receiving 13,696,120 votes followed by San Juan City Rep. Joseph Victor “JV” Ejercito Estrada at 11th place with 13,552,991 votes.

Comelec chair Sixto Brillantes Jr. said NBOC will be able to proclaim winners on Saturday night even as certificate of canvass from Lanao del Norte is still being contested.

NBOC said it already counted 129 out of 304 CoCs containing 39,898,992 votes overall.

US eyes access to Phl bases in 8 locations

The United States has asked for access to Philippine military bases in eight locations to rotate troops, aircraft and ships as Washington shifts its forces to Asia and as China expands its military presence in the South China Sea. US Defense Secretary Ash Carter, in a speech in Arizona, has outlined Washington’s next phase in its Asia “pivot,” deploying its most sophisticated destroyers, bombers and fighters to the region. The Asia “pivot” has already seen US Marines rotating through the …

    Washington bucks China’s aggressive actions

Short of condemning China’s aggressive actions in the West Philippine Sea, a senior US military official said Washington does not support any act of coercion and bullying. “We don’t stand for coercion, bullying and aggressiveness,” said Brig. Gen. Christopher Mahoney, assistant US military director for  Phl-US Joint Balikatan Exercises 2015. At the sidelines of this year’s joint military exercises’ static aircraft display held at Clark Air Base in Pampanga, Mahoney told a media briefing that …

‘Giving Bangsamoro police control is constitutional’

The proposed grant to the chief minister of the envisioned Bangsamoro region of operational control over police forces in the area is consistent with the Constitution, a senior administration lawmaker said yesterday. Rep. Elpidio Barzaga Jr. of Dasmariñas City in Cavite made the statement to allay the fears of his colleagues that the proposal, contained in the draft Bangsamoro Basic Law (BBL), would violate the Charter. It is clear in the proposed BBL that the Bangsamoro police will be part …
