25 of 31 tests done by VSMMC 'negative'; 6 for confirmation

THE Vicente Sotto Memorial Medical Center (VSMMC) sub-national laboratory conducted 31 new tests for coronavirus disease (Covid-19) as of Tuesday, March 24, 2020.

Of the number, 25 have yielded negative results, while six are up for confirmatory testing at the Research Institute for Tropical Medicine (RITM).

Last week, the VSMMC sent four results to RITM for confirmatory test. One of the four came back negative. The VSMMC is awaiting confirmation for the three tests.

Jaime Bernadas, Department of Health (DOH)-Central Visayas director, as a protocol, the first batch of samples needing confirmation have to be sent to RITM, since all the five sub-national laboratories in the country are still considered to be on their "maiden voyage."

He said those samples tagged as "for confirmation" does not automatically mean "positive cases."

"Bisan wala pa ang confirmatory test result, gipahibaw na nato ang hospitals, local chief executives, physicians aron maghimo og pro-active containment. Dili na ta maghulat kanus-a mabalik ang (confirmatory) result," he said.

The 31 new tests are not all from Central Visayas, as the VSMMC, as a sub-national laboratory, will also conduct testing for samples from other areas in the Visayas and Mindanao. (WBS)
