2nd Lapu-Lapu City councilor tests positive for Covid

LAPU-LAPU City Councilor Janvi dela Serna is the second city legislator to test positive for the coronavirus disease 2019 (Covid-19).

Earlier this month, City Councilor Rico Amores was also found positive for the disease.

Dela Cerna said he might have contracted the virus while visiting the city’s isolation center.

He said he had already placed himself on isolation, adding that he is asymptomatic.

Mayor Junard Chan also tested positive for Covid-19 last June 11, but he has since recovered.

Lapu-Lapu City reported 99 new Covid-19 cases on Monday, June 29, 2020.

On his Facebook page, Chan said 40 of the cases are detainees at the city jail in Barangay Soong, while the rest are scattered in various barangays.

The city’s Covid-19 cases have reached 567 with 112 recoveries.

In Cebu Province, the northern town of Catmon recorded one new Covid-19 case.

The town’s 11th patient is a 54-year-old male from Barangay Catmondaan. He is an employee in Lapu-Lapu City. Catmon now has nine active Covid-19 cases, one recovery and one death.

The western town of Balamban reported 3 new cases, including a 69-year-old male working in Mandaue City, raising the town’s total Covid-19 cases to seven.

Also on Monday, Danao City reported two new cases, raising its total cases to 17. One of the new cases, a 77-year-old female, died.

Mandaue City reported 26 new cases and 24 recoveries. The city now has 528 active cases, 254 recoveries and 17 deaths. (ANV, RDR, GCM, RSR)
