A WOMAN in her late 60s became the third casualty in the second fire incident that hit Barangay San Antonio, Cebu City past 11 p.m. Monday, Oct. 5, 2020.
The incident happened 24 hours after two elderly women died in a fire that damaged a two-storey building in Barangay Sambag 1 past 11 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 4.
The fatality in the San Antonio fire was identified as Emma Cubillan, 69. Firefighters found her charred remains near a bed on the second floor of a house in Barangay San Antonio past 11 p.m., Monday, Oct. 5, 2020.
Cubillan’s husband Angelito, who had burns, was rushed to a private hospital for treatment.
The Cebu City Fire Station received the fire alarm at 11:13 p.m., according to investigator FO2 Fulbert Navarro.
Firefighters put out the fire at 12:22 a.m. Tuesday, Oct. 6.
The fire reportedly started in the house owned by Grace Go, Navarro said.
Navarro pegged the damage at P10.1 million.

Sambag 1 fire
At 11:31 p.m. on Sunday, Oct. 4, a fire hit a four-storey apartment in Barangay Sambag 1.
The two fatalities were identified as medical doctor Gleinda Mayol Neri, 80, and Francisca Fomentera, 71. Both were residents of the apartment situated on J. Alcantara St. in Sambag 1.
The bodies of Neri and Fomentera were found lying on the portion of Neri’s room barely touched by the fire.
Navarro believed the two women may have suffocated as they attempted to escape the burning apartment.
The Cebu City Fire Station has yet to determine the causes behind the two fire incidents. (BBT / KAL)
