AT LEAST three houses were damaged after a mid-morning fire hit Sitio Lower San Roque in Barangay Bulacao, Cebu City on Saturday, January 8, 2022.

Fire officer 3 Emerson Arceo, duty investigator of the Cebu City Fire Office, said the fire damage was pegged at P40,000.

Arceo said they initially received the fire alarm at around 9:40 a.m.

The fire reportedly began at the house of Mavel Bulanda.

The fire was placed on first alarm at around 9:42 a.m.

Firefighters were able to control the fire at around 9:49 a.m. and was put out after six minutes.

Arceo said residents in the area claimed a gas lamp may have caused the fire.

But he added that they are still conducting further investigation to determine what caused the fire.

This was the fifth fire in Cebu City that occurred during the first week of the year.

After Typhoon Odette hit Cebu on December 16, 2021 around 29 fires have hit the city.

Majority of the fire incidents were caused by unattended candles or gas lamps as power supply in Cebu has not been fully restored since the typhoon.
