TWO people were hurt during a five-vehicle collision that occurred at the tunnel of the South Road Properties (SRP) in Cebu City on Friday afternoon, June 3, 2022.

Staff Sgt. Arnilo Limalima of the Traffic Enforcement Unit of the Cebu City Police Office said at least five vehicles including two trailer trucks, two cars and a multicab were involved in the accident.

Lima-lima also identified the injured as Jayson Alima-lima and Cyril Alonzo, the driver and the assistant onboard the trailer truck that allegedly started the accident, and Clark Borbon, a resident of Cansojong, Talisay City, who was driving a sport utility vehicle. The three are now currently recuperating at a public hospital in Cebu City.

Based on their investigation, Limalima told SunStar Cebu that Alima-lima reportedly lost his brakes which resulted in the collision.

Gilbert Catubig, a resident of Barangay San Roque, Talisay City, told SunStar Cebu that he was driving his car along the SRP tunnel towards Mandaue City when suddenly, another car rammed his vehicle from behind.

Catubig said Borbon, who was driving an SUV, hit him as a result of being bumped by the trailer truck driven by Alima-lima.

Aside from Catubig and Borbon’s vehicles, another trailer truck and a multicab were also caught up by Alima-lima’s truck during the accident.

Like Catubig, Gani Rabanes, who drove the multicab, and Santiago Magdali, who drove the second trailer truck, were not hurt during the accident.

After the incident, emergency responders from the Cebu City government placed signs at the tunnel to remind motorists to be careful driving there due to oil slicks brought about by the accidents.
