3 kids die of suffocation after getting trapped inside car for hours

Three children, all of whom were cousins, died of suffocation on Monday after getting trapped inside a car in Orion, Bataan province.

The victims were identified as Agatha Morales, 9, Shamel Morales, 8, and Pauline Morales, 6, GMA News’ Balitambayan reported. The victims’ grandmother told ABS-CBN News that they all suffocated inside the car.

According to the police, the children were last seen playing near the company vehicle of Jessie Morales, a 31-year-old safety officer of the Petron Bataan Refinery who is the father of one of the children, The Philippine Daily Inquirer reported.

Jessie reportedly parked the car in Eskinita St., Barangay (Village) Calungusan at around 4pm on the same day. When he got back at around 8pm, he found the children inside the car, no longer moving.

He rushed the kids to the St. Michael Hospital in Orion, but they were declared dead due to suffocation, the Inquirer report added.

Investigators said that the car’s door could only be opened from the outside.

The victims’ family believes that the ordeal was an accident. Authorities are still investigating the incident.
