THEIR vacation turned into a tragedy when three women lost their personal belongings to thieves in Dumanjug town, southwest Cebu on Sunday dawn, August 7, 2022.

Master Sergeant Romeo Legaspi Jr., desk officer of Dumanjug Police Station, said Elsa Tapdasan Gumilao, 53; Shailen Ecarma Francisco, 27, a staff nurse; and Anagel Macopia Co, 47, members of Seventh-Day Adventist church and residents of Talisay City, Cebu, were having a vacation at the rest house of their churchmate, Samuel Capada, in Sitio Lomboy, Barangay Lawaan, Dumanjug, when the incident took place.

Legaspi told SunStar Cebu that the victims were sleeping when they noticed around 1 a.m. Sunday that their shoulder bags that they placed beside their beds were already gone.

The victims reportedly lost P11,000 cash, two cellphones and five ATM cards.

One of the ATM cards containing cash amounting P100,000 was owned by Co, who immediately reported the incident to the bank to have her account blocked.

Responding policemen later recovered the victims' bags at the garage with its contents already gone.

"Posible nga duha ka tao ang nagbuhat ani. Nagtan-aw sad ta sa laing anggulo nga basin naay usa ra sa mga kauban nila nga apil aning maong pagpangawat kay ngano nakahibalo man sa maong mga bags pero di pa ta ka conclude sa pagka-karon," Legaspi said.

(It's possible that two persons did this. We also do not discount the possibility that only one of them committed the act because he knew where the bags were placed but we still could not conclude as of the moment).

An investigation is ongoing to identify the person responsible. (GDC, TPT)
