A TOTAL of 300 new contract tracers hired by the Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) Central Visayas arrived in Lapu-Lapu City on Oct. 13, 2020, to undergo training just before they are sent for deployment.
Lapu-Lapu City Mayor Ahong Chan expressed his gratitude to those who responded to the DILG’s call to be hired as contact tracers for the city.
With the additional manpower, contact tracing in the city will be intensified, Chan added.
Grace Mary Carungay, the government’s epidemiological and surveillance unit officer, revealed that all 300 contact tracers were selected by the DILG and are all from Lapu-Lapu City and are college graduates.
Up to 700 applicants have applied for the position but DILG chose only 300 due to the gradual decrease of Covid-19 cases in the city. There is a big possibility that some of the contact tracers will be augmented in other cities, while others will be assigned to record and monitor cases in sitios and barangays.
Contact tracers will have a salary of P18,000 with a contract that will last to three months but subject for extension if the pandemic lasts longer, according to Carungay.
“We are happy because aside from providing additional manpower to our City Health Office, we also provide assistance to contact tracers by giving them employment especially that the Christmas season is fast approaching,” Carungay added. (GCM / MMC)
