OF THE 2,191 vendors in Carbon Public Market who were tested for the virus that causes coronavirus disease 2019 (Covid-19), 33 or 1.5 percent yielded positive results.
However, they are not considered active cases of infection, Department of Health (DOH) Central Visayas spokesperson Mary Jean Loreche said on Friday, Oct. 16, 2020.
She said the vendors have not developed any symptoms of Covid-19. They have also tested positive for immunoglobulin G (IgG), the most common type of antibodies that humans develop after an infection, not necessarily Covid-19.
Loreche said the 33 vendors are, thus, considered “clinically recovered.”
About half of the vendors tested, or 1,136 (almost 52 percent), were found negative for both IgG and IgM.
While IgG is developed after an infection, IgM is developed at the start of an infection. A person found positive for IgM is fighting off an infection.
Loreche said a negative result for both IgG and IgM means the 1,136 vendors have neither past nor current infection.
Nearly 48 percent, or 1,047 vendors, were IgG positive, indicating a possible past infection.
The vendors were tested for Sars-CoV-2, the virus that causes Covid-19, through the reverse transcription polymerase chain reaction (RT-PCR) test and for antibodies through the rapid diagnostic test. / JJL
