THOUGH the Covid-19 pandemic has devastated businesses and industries and altered people's lives, it was not successful in changing the Cebuanos faith and devotion to Señor Sto. Niño, which was rooted some 456 years ago.
Fr. Pacifico Nohara Jr., rector of the Basilica Minore del Sto. Niño, said in his homily Friday, January 8, that this is evident in the number of devotees who attended the enthronement and the Opening Salvo of the novena masses for the Fiesta Señor 2021 Friday morning.
"Kapugngan pang baha. Nungka ang atong gugma kaniya maski si corona, dili makapugong sa atong gugma sa Balaang Bata," he said.
About 3,000 devotees attended the opening celebration inside the Basilica pilgrim center and its nearby vicinity.
Nohara said even with the current situation, the opportunity to gather inside the Basilica to celebrate the opening of the Fiesta Señor is something the Catholic faithful must be thankful for. (WBS)
