3rd most wanted man in province nabbed for refusing to pay commercial sex worker last year

A MAN wanted for rape was arrested in Sitio Tawug, Barangay Taloot in the southern town of Argao, Cebu, on Wednesday afternoon, November 2, 2022.

The accused was identified as 33-year-old Joseph Amaba dela Calzada, a single construction worker who resides in the barangay.

Major Nazarino Emia, chief of the Criminal Investigation and Detection Group (CIDG) Cebu Provincial Field Unit (PFU), described dela Calzada as the third most wanted person in the provincial level.

The warrant for his arrest was issued by Regional Trial Court Branch 86 Judge Fruto Garcia Teodorico in Mandaue City earlier that day.

The judge didn’t recommend bail.

According to Emia, a prostitute had filed the case against the accused and two others for allegedly failing to pay her after they had sex in November 2021.

The case against dela Calzada’s companions was dropped after they submitted their counter-affidavit, while the accused went home to Argao.

Dela Calzada insisted on his innocence when police handcuffed him.

“The accused said why would he pay when he and the woman agreed beforehand to have sex while they were drinking,” Emia said in Cebuano. (GPL, PJB)
