4 soldiers wounded in Guihulngan ambush

FOUR members of the 49th Infantry Battalion (IB) led by Second Lieutenant Niel Christian Cureg were wounded after suspected New People's Army (NPA) rebels attacked them in Barangay Luz, Guihulngan City, Negros Oriental around 10:40 p.m. Tuesday, March 3, 2020.

First Lieutenant Maria Allein Veluz, of the Civil Military Operations of the 94th IB, said an improvised explosive device was detonated along the boundary of Isabela, Negros Occidental and Guihulngan, Negros Oriental when 10 soldiers onboard a vehicle passed by.

Five suspected NPA members then peppered the soldiers' vehicle with bullets.

The troops returned fire and maneuvered to an opposite lane.

The exchange of fire lasted for about 10 minutes.

The suspected rebels fled the area and were seen retreating toward Barangay Banogbanog, Isabela town, Negros Occidental. (AYB/JGS)
