Nowadays, everyone seems to be in a hurry to get somewhere. We’d like to go from point A to point B in the least amount of time. Hence, most people prefer to travel long distances by plane, consequently congesting our vast airspace (a near-impossible feat, or so I thought). Yet, there are instances when it is more enjoyable to take long trips by land, say for example, if you are going on a vacation at a beach on the northern-most tip of Luzon. Here are some reasons why driving a car beats taking the plane:
1. You don’t have to follow a schedule.
Hit the road whenever you want to, make a stopover wherever you like and there’s no need to be in your garage two hours before your intended departure time. Plus, when you get to your destination, you’ll still have your own transportation.
2. You’ll have more selfie moments.
See the sights along the way and take plenty of photos of yourself with different sceneries as your backdrop. Just be sure to pull over before doing so.
3. It’s more pleasurable on the palate.
Forget airline food. Do sample native cuisine and delicacies at each stop. Giggle like a grade-schooler as you ask the waiter for authentic Ilocano dishes like puki-puki and kabatiti.
4. Miserly loves company.
Definitely take the car if you’re travelling with family. A full tank of fuel roughly costs as much as a one-way domestic flight, yet it can already bring multiple passengers to relatively far distances.
5.It’s a good opportunity to hone your driving skills.
Driving to out of town destinations allows us to practice our prowess behind the wheel under various road conditions, as opposed to regularly being stuck in rush hour traffic in the city. Piloting your own vehicle is much more fun than staring out the window trying to making out shapes from a bunch of cloud formations.
