AROUND 580 police officers are set to be deployed by the Mandaue City Police Office (MCPO) during the May 9 elections.

Lt. Col. Franco Rudolf Oriol, MCPO’s Intelligence Branch chief and its spokesperson, said while the city has no record of election-related violence since the beginning of the campaign period, the deployment of police officers aims to ensure that the local polls in the city’s 27 barangays would be peaceful and orderly.

Aside from deploying 580 police officers, the MCPO will also tap members of civilian force multipliers to help in securing polling precincts in the city.

Oriol said they will also assign personnel in key areas in the city during the local polls including the Commission on Elections office in Mandaue City and the City Treasurer’s Office where the election paraphernalia are being kept and will be distributed.

The police official further said they will also deploy police personnel and force multipliers to the Mandaue City Sports and Cultural Complex where the canvassing of votes will take place.

Final briefing

Meanwhile, officials from the Mandaue City Treasurer’s Office have conducted a final briefing to public school teachers and other election personnel who will serve in the May 9 polls.

Mandaue City Treasurer Regal Oliva told SunStar Cebu that the final briefing aims to educate those involved in the election process and ensure that they are aware of their duties during the May 9 polls.
