6 suspects in Lapu jewelry store theft incident identified

THE Lapu-Lapu City Police Office (LCPO) has identified six suspects in the theft incident that happened a week ago at a jewelry store inside a mall in Barangay Basak.

Police Major Leo Logronio, chief of the City Investigation and Detective Management Unit (CIDMU), said they have been back-tracking the closed circuit television (CCTV) footage for the identity of the thieves who reportedly stole P800,000 worth of valuables.

Police Major Karen Bancoleta, chief of LCPO Station 4, told SunStar Cebu Monday, November 21, 2022, that four of the suspects are men and two are women.

He said they will file a case against the suspects once the gathering of pieces of evidence is done.

Logronio said they are also conducting profiling to other persons of interest.

He said, though, that they could not yet determine whether the suspects belong to an organized group of thieves.

He said there is a possibility that they are not residents of Lapu-Lapu City.

The incident reportedly occurred on November 15, around 1:30 p.m. or during mall hours at Ugoy Jewelry Shop, Gaisano Grand in Basak, Lapu-Lapu City

Logronio said that based on their monitoring, they could not identify where in the city two of the suspects are residing.

He said they are looking into all angles, such as the possibility that there is an inside job.

Following the incident, Bancoleta reminded all business establishments to be cautious and alert especially during this Christmas season. (MKG)
