602nd Squadron Declared Best Performer

BACOLOD CITY, Negros Occ. - The Philippine Coast Guard Auxiliary (PCGA)'s 602nd Squadron, a volunteer rescue group supervised by the Philippine Coast Guard (PCG), was awarded Best Performing Squadron of the year during a recent annual gathering of PCGAs in Dumaguete City.

The group was given a plaque of recognition, with a citation signed by Higinio Mendoza, Jr., PCGA Vice Admiral and national director recognizing the Squadron's "exemplary service to the country and community."

Capt. Elizabeth Orola-Salabas is director of the 602nd squadron, which covers 10 divisions from north to south, Negros Occidental province.

The PCGA is principally involved in conducting rescue operations in time of calamity and emergency, regardless of time and weather.

In a related development, Salabas was elected District Auxiliary Director of PCGA Western Visayas District. She is the first woman to lead the male-dominated organization in the region. She will be installed during the PCGA Visayan Summit to be held at the VMA Global College Gym. June 15-17. Vice Admiral Edmund Tan of the organic Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) will be the guest speaker during the event.

Expected to attend are various PCGA divisions and squadrons all over the country, comprised by volunteers who are committed to save lives and properties during calamities.
