62 families affected in Tabunok fire; Samsam seeks donations for fire victims

AT LEAST 62 families lost their homes after a fire hit Purok Florentino, Mananga 1 in Barangay Tabunok, Talisay City, on Halloween night, Oct. 31, 2022.

FO3 Junriel Siaboc, chief investigator for the Talisay City Fire Station, told reporters that they received the fire alarm at 8:52 p.m.

The fire was immediately placed on second alarm at 9:09 p.m. and later, on third alarm at 9:24 p.m. after firefighters experienced difficulty in penetrating the area.

The fire was eventually placed under control at 10:15 p.m.

Siaboc said at least 61 houses were destroyed during the fire.

The damage to properties was pegged at P191,250.

Based on his initial investigation, Siaboc learned that the fire started in the house of Jhon Rey Borlasa.

Borlasa was not at his house at the time. He reportedly left the house to the care of his five employees.

However, Borlasa’s workers later told firefighters that they were not at their boss’ houses when the fire began, thus they can’t ascertain what caused the fire.

Faustino Abella, whose house was among those destroyed by the fire, said only his laptop was saved among his belongings. Abella admitted that he never thought that the fire would reach his house.

Siaboc said he still has to complete his investigation to determine the cause of fire.

In a statement posted on his official Facebook page, Talisay City Mayor Gerald Anthony “Samsam” Gullas Jr. said that based on their inventory, around 253 individuals or 62 families were affected by the fire.
