6K join Lapu-Lapu parade despite rain

ABOUT 6,000 people joined the Civic-Military Parade around the Nuestra Señora de Regla-Parish National Shrine in Barangay Poblacion, Lapu-Lapu City, amid the heavy rains on Saturday afternoon, Nov. 19, 2022.

Col. Elmer Lim, director of the Lapu-Lapu City Police (LCPO) said no untoward incidents occurred during the activity.

Lim said aside from his personnel, traffic personnel from the Lapu-Lapu City Traffic Management System (CTMS) and force multipliers were present to ensure that the activity was peaceful and secure.

He said they will enforce this until the end of the remaining activities in relation to the 287th fiesta celebration of Nuestra Señora de Regla.

He said the parade lasted two hours. It started at around 1 p.m. and ended at 3 p.m.

Lim, however, urged the public to remain vigilant to avoid any untoward incidents during the remaining fiesta activities in the city.

He also urged the public to observe personal safety and vigilance, especially if they are attending festivities related to this year’s fiesta.

Apart from that, he also reminded the public to avoid bringing prohibited items such as weapons, alcoholic beverages, loose firearms and drugs when attending fiesta activities.

Heavy traffic felt

Mario Napuli, CTMS head, said there were areas affected by heavy traffic due to road closures which started around 11 a.m. and ended at 3 p.m.

Napuli said motorists heading to and from Cordova town experienced heavy traffic as their routes were diverted due to the parade.

But Napuli stressed that this is expected since they diverted the routes of public utility vehicles in the city. (MKG)
