7-year-old boy killed in blast after playing with grenade

A seven-year old boy was killed when an M203 rifle grenade exploded in Barangay Nasucob, Bulalacao, Oriental Mindoro.

Initial investigation revealed that the child mistook the grenade for a toy and began to hit it with a hammer causing it to explode.

The victim was declared dead on arrival at the hospital.

Mindoro-Marinduque-Romblon-Palawan (MIMAROPA) Public Information Officer Chief PSupt Imelda Tolentino has a reminder for parents.

“Panawagan po natin sa atin mga magulang,huwag na huwag po sana malilingat sa mata niyo yung mga bata kasi kung titingnan po natin mahirap po siya ituro sa bata ano po itsura ng granada,” said

(We call on parents to watch their children closely. If you look at it, it is difficult to teach kids what a grenade looks like.)
