A 70-YEAR-OLD man who was accused by his own granddaughter of rape was arrested by police at 6:39 p.m. Tuesday, August 2, 2022, in his residence in Sitio Kalangyawon, Barangay Napo, Carcar City, southern Cebu.

Lieutenant Colonel Ardeolito Cabagnot, chief of Carcar Police Station, told SunStar Cebu that Juan (not his real name), a farmer, went to Davao five years ago after he was accused of raping his granddaughter, who was then in Grade 7, but came back to his hometown recently.

The Carcar police immediately served the warrant of arrest issued by Judge Joy Redoble of Carcar City Regional Trial Court on February 19, 2020 against Juan in his residence after receiving information from their intelligence personnel that they have seen the suspect in the area.

"Nipauli ni siya daw kay OK naman ilang pamilya, unya nagkabikil pagbalik na-ugkat ang kaso, nadakpan," said Cabagnot.

(He reportedly went home as his relationship with his family already went well, but it turned sour again, enabling the rape case to be recalled resulting in his arrest).

The victim admitted that she was raped by her grandfather five times in 2017.

Juan will be facing charges for five counts of statutory rape, which is not bailable. (GPL, TPT)
