8 regional airports set for upgrade

MANILA, Philippines — The government is rushing the upgrade of eight regional airports in the country to accommodate flights even at night.

Makati City representative Luis Campos Jr. said one of the reasons why the Ninoy Aquino International Airport is congested is because the flights en route to provinces are queued during the day.

He said, based on the report of the Department of Transportation in the Lower House, the airports included in the upgrade are those in Naga, Camarines Sur, Tuguegarao, Cauayan, Dumaguete, Dipolog, Cotabato, Pagadian and Ozamiz.

The rehabilitation is on-going on the runway and terminal facilities of the airports.

Among the 42 airports, only 19 can accommodate flights during the evening. — UNTV News & Rescue
