971 farmers, fisherfolk in southern Cebu get P3,000 fuel assistance

·1 min read

AT LEAST 971 farmers and fishermen in southern Cebu received a fuel discount card each from the Department of Agriculture in Central Visayas (DA 7) that will be used for their livelihood.

Each fuel discount card contains P3,000 worth of fuel credits from partner oil companies that could help mitigate the impact of rising oil prices.

Of the 971 beneficiaries, 717 were farmers from the 33 barangays in Argao town and 34 from a barangay in Dumanjug, while 220 were fishermen from the cities of Naga and Carcar and the towns of Minglanilla, Argao, Boljoon, Oslob, Malabuyoc, Badian, Moalboal, Alcantara and Barili.

The discount cards can be used in refueling farm and fishing equipment such as tractors, corn mills and shellers and motorized bancas.

Great help

The DA 7 believes the fuel cards will be of great help to the beneficiaries amid the high prices of fuel.

The agency warned the beneficiaries to use the fuel card only for its intended purpose as stipulated in the contract.

Those who want to avail of the project may register at the Registry System for Basic Sector in Agriculture for farmers and Fisherfolk Registration and Boat Registration (motorized) for the fishermen in their respective Municipal Agriculture Offices.

The DA 7 will conduct another round of distribution in other areas across the region.
