NINETY-NINE new cases of the coronavirus disease (Covid-19) were recorded in Lapu-Lapu City Monday, June 29, 2020.
Mayor Junard Chan posted the news on his Facebook page, saying 40 of the 99 are persons deprived of liberty (PDL) inside the Bureau of Jail Management and Penology (BJMP), and 59 of these come from contact tracing efforts.
The new cases come from the following areas: Pusok (13), Pajo (11), Gun-ob (10), Basak (9), Poblacion (8), Maribago (7), Marigondon (5), Agus (4), Looc (4), Pajac (4), Canjulao (4), Babag (4), Mactan (3), Bankal (3), Buaya (2), Calawisan (1) and Ibo (1). Two cases come from unspecified barangays.
The mayor assured his constituents that the PDLs have been isolated already.
Precautionary measures are also being done inside the BJMP in Soong to avoid the spread of the virus among other inmates and jail officers.
As of Monday, Lapu-Lapu City has a total of 567 Covid-19 cases, with 112 recoveries.
Chan appealed for cooperation among the Lapu-Lapu residents.
He also encouraged the public to call out those who are violating protocols, and to constantly follow precautionary measures like hand washing, social distancing, and regular disinfection. (RDR)
