Abne beats Bacolod

APRIL Jay Abne fought 10 hard-fought rounds with former ALA Boy Christian Bacolod and eventually walked away with a close unanimous decision in the main event of “Engkwentro 6” on Aug. 7 at the Bonifacio R. Bacaltos Sports and Cultural Centrum in Sibonga, Cebu.

Abne got the nod of all three judges in a closely contested match. Judges Noel Flores, Edward Ligas and Arnel Pasion all scored the bout with identical scores of 96-94.

Abne got the biggest win of his career with the win over Bacolod. He improved to 10-1 with five knockouts, while Bacolod dropped to 14-2 with 10 knockouts.

Meanwhile, John Paul Gabunillas (8-1, 6 KOs) continues his winning streak with an eighth round technical knockout of Ruben Davidas (8-2, 4 KOs).

The fight was stopped after the ring physician deemed Davidas unfit to continue because of a cut on his left eyelid that was from a punch.

In the undercard, Berland Robles (5-0, 2 KOs) outclassed tough Ramel Antaran (5-18-2) by unanimous decision; Rodex Piala (6-0, 1 KO) stopped Jason Dogelio (10-8, 3 KOs) in three rounds; journeyman Rodel Wenceslao (17-19-2, 7 KOs) beat Ernesto Cagampang (4-2-1, 4 KOs); BJ Wild (9-0, 6 KOs) defeated experienced Mateo Handig (15-22, 9 KOs) by unanimous decision; Ian Abne (6-0-1, 4 KOs) settled to a technical draw with Charlie Malupangue (9-5-4, 6 KOs); Ramil Macado (3-0, 2 KOs) won against Alvin Camique (4-1, 1 KO) by unanimous decision; Brix Piala (5-0, 2 KOs) scored a fourth round technical knockout of Ponciano Remandiman (10-6-1, 5 KOs); and Yeroge Gura (4-0, 2 KOs) retired Jeffrey Galero (17-9, 8 KOs) in the second round.
