Accounting firm confirms Covid-19 case in PH office

INTERNATIONAL accounting firm Deloitte has confirmed that an employee in its Philippine office tested positive for Covid-19, the disease caused by the novel coronavirus.

The company has two offices in the Philippines located at the Bonifacio Global City in Taguig City, Metro Manila and at the Cebu Business Park in Cebu City. It was not clear where the infected employee holds office.

“The colleague is currently in hospital receiving treatment and further tests, and Deloitte is supporting the colleague and family in every way we can,” the company said in a statement posted on its website.

The company assured that “all necessary actions to manage the situation” have been taken.

“All necessary actions were promptly taken to inform those who might have come into contact with the colleague for the appropriate checks and provide any possible form of support,” the company added.

Deloitte issued the statement several hours after the Department of Health (DOH) announced two new Covid-19 cases in the Philippines, a 48-year-old and 62-year-old. Both are male and are Filipinos.

The 48-year-old has travel history to Japan and is in stable condition at the Research Institute for Tropical Medicine (RITM) while the 62-year-old, who has no travel history, is suffering from severe pneumonia and has preexisting hypertension and diabetes.

The 62-year-old is known to have visited a prayer hall in Greenhills, San Juan City. (MVI/SunStar Philippines)
