FORMER Tourism Secretary Ace Durano has finally confirmed his candidacy for governor of Cebu in the upcoming 2022 elections.
"It took time for me to decide kay sa tinuoray lang, ni retiro na ko sa pulitika and okay na gyud ko sa pribado nga kinabuhi kuyog sa akong pamilya. But considering the current situation in the Province tungod aning Covid, if we remain to address it the way we are currently doing so, then this pandemic would affect us for a much prolonged time," said Durano.
Durano had decided to retire from politics and was content with a private life with his family, but the current situation of Cebu Province amid the coronavirus disease (Covid-19) pandemic and the current measures done to address it has propelled him to enter politics again.
"Pasabot ana mas dugay ta nga dili makakuyog ug makakita sa atong pamilya, mas dugay nga dili ta maka-adto sa ubang lugar, and sadly, mas dugay ang panahon nga sige ta’g kahadlok nga mawad-an napud ta’g minahal sa kinabuhi tungod aning Covid (This means that it would take a long time for us to see and be with our families again, for us to go to different places, and sadly, for us to live in fear of having to lose someone we love because of Covid-19.)," he said, explaining what he meant by how current pandemic measures would affect residents in Cebu for a prolonged time.
Last September 27, several groups in Cebu expressed their support for the Durano-Davide tandem in the 2022 national election.
Around 120 group leaders gathered to call on Durano and vice governor Hilario Davide III to run as a tandem for the election.
Durano has not yet confirmed his running mate, but he said he would personally inform the potential candidate. (ANV)
