MEDIA practitioners in Cebu are back not on their respective beats and stations but on court, as they opened this year’s Cebu Press Freedom Week on Saturday, Sept. 17, 2022, with a volleyball tournament.

The Cebu Press Freedom Invitational Mixed Tournament returned two years after it was halted because of the coronavirus disease 2022 (Covid-19) pandemic.

This year, the media practitioners are joined by representatives of their news sources, who also formed a team that is competitive enough to make the matches more intense and exciting.

Six teams are vying for this year’s cash prizes, as well as titles such as Most Valuable Player (MVP), best spiker, best blocker, best receiver, best setter, best server and best muse.

Day 1 of the tournament was held on Saturday at the University of San Carlos (USC) Main gym on Sanciangko St., Cebu City. Day 2 of the elimination round will be on Sept. 24, while the semi-finals and championship will be held on Oct. 1.

Sponsors of the event include the Visayan Electric, Converge ICT Solutions Inc., USC and Rother’s Photography and Digital Printing.

The volleyball tournament is just one of the activities lined up in celebration of the 30th Cebu Press Freedom Week.
