UNITED City FC (UCFC) and Kaya FC-Iloilo won’t be seeing action internationally in September after the Asian Football Confederation (AFC) has decided to cancel the remaining matches of the AFC Cup 2020 due to the Covid-19 virus.
The AFC Cup was supposed to resume on Sept. 23 in different venues for different groups. However, the AFC, headed by its president Sheikh Salman bin Ebrahim al-Khalifa, decided to cancel this year’s tournament in a meeting of the executive committee this week.
Both Filipino clubs last saw action in March, just before the virus spread worldwide.
Just before the tournament was cancelled, UCFC led Group G with seven points from two wins and a draw, while Kaya Fc-Iloilo is second in Group H with five points from a win and two draws. They, however, are preparing for the return of the Philippines Football League, currently training at a controlled environment in Carmona. (EKA)
