Aguirre open to run in 2019 Senatorial elections

“If you ask me, I think Secretary Vitaliano Aguirre should be in the line up of senatorial candidates of PDP-Laban in 2019. I will support the candidacy of Sec. Vitaliano Aguirre,” House Speaker Pantaleon Alvarez said in what seems to be an endorsement for the justice secretary as a possible administration candidate in the 2019 senatorial elections.

Alvarez was the guest speaker at the 81st anniversary of the National Bureau of Investigation (NBI), Monday.

The House Speaker said he will convince President Rodrigo Duterte to include Aguirre in their senatorial line-up.

“I will highly recommend the inclusion of Sec. Vit Aguirre in the administration’s ticket,” Alvarez said.

Alvarez said Aguirre would be a big help to the President to fast track the passage of bills in the Senate.

He laments that of 110 bills they transmitted to the Upper House, only 10 had become laws.

Aguirre is open to run for the Senate but said it will depend on President Duterte.

As PDP-Laban Chairman, President Duterte will have the final say on who will be running for the Senate in 2019.

“What will be, will be. Que sera, sera. If the situation demands it, but definitely much will depend on what will be the opinion of the President. We will obey the command of the President,” Department of Justice (DOJ) Sec. Vitaliano Aguirre II said.

Last Friday, Alvarez announced that Presidential Spokesperson Harry Roque and Communications Assistant Sec. Mocha Uson are among the administration’s senatorial bets.

“I really believe that Mocha would be a very good candidate. For me, she is qualified. I think she has a genuine heart for the Filipino people,” Alvarez said.

Alvarez, however, clarified the list is temporary and the party is yet to decide on it. – Roderick Mendoza | UNTV News & Rescue
