Alaska comes alive in fourth to shoot down Phoenix

The Alaska Aces found their rhythm just when they needed it the most to pull away from Phoenix Super LPG and toppled the Fuel Masters, 105-97, PBA Philippine Cup on Thursday, October 29, at the Angeles University Foundation Sports Arena in Pampanga.

Phoenix was still ahead, 80-79, early in the fourth when Alaska suddenly uncorked a blistering 10-0 run that gave them the lead for good to eventually grab the win and improve to 5-3 (win-loss) for the season.

Vic Manuel sparked the telling surge with a lay-up, which was followed by a three-pointer by Mike Digregorio. Rodney Brondial got another layup and Digregorio shot in another triple to give Alaska an 89-80 lead.

Phoenix star Matthew Wright got hot from beyond the arc late to close the gap to 95-103, but it was a case of too little, too late as the Fuel Masters ran out of time and dropped to 4-3 for the season.

Manuel fired in 24 points for Alaska while Digregorio had 21.

Phoenix was led by the Wright’s 27 points while Abueva, who was playing in his second game after a 16-month suspension, tallied 18 points, eight rebounds and five assists. (JNP)
