Alcoy records first Covid-19 case

THE Municipality of Alcoy has recorded its first case of the coronavirus disease (Covid-19) on Sunday, June 27, 2020.

According to the official statement of Alcoy's Municipal Health Officer, Dr. Rodante F. Sinena, the town's first patient is a 61-year-old male resident of Barangay Poblacion.

The patient reportedly has Type 2 diabetes mellitus.

He consulted at the Rural Health Unit last June 22 due to dizziness and on and off coughing. The patient was assessed and given antibiotics.

However, on June 24, the patient's symptoms persisted. He was then brought and admitted to Alcantara Hospital, Dalaguete.

The patient was transferred to the Vicente Sotto Memorial Medical Center (VSMMC) on June 25 due to a worsening condition. The patient was admitted to the SARI ward, where he was swab tested.

On June 26, the patient succumbed to acute respiratory failure secondary to community-acquired pneumonia-high risk.

The local government assured that before the results of the patient came out, the contact tracing team has already identified all first degree contacts, including family members, healthcare workers, and some workmates. Necessary isolation was also initiated.

The municipal mayor encouraged all residents to follow health protocols at all times, such as wearing face masks, proper hand hygiene and practice social distancing. (RSR)
