Following the incredibly upsetting news last week that actor Alec Baldwin had fatally shot a woman, Halyna Hutchins, whilst filming the movie Rust, Alec's wife Hilaria has paid tribute to the cinematographer who lost her life in the tragic accident. Members of the crew who were also on set that day are speaking out too, sharing further details of the event.

Taking to Instagram, Hilaria (who shares six children with Alec) posted an image reading "My heart is with Halyna. Her husband. Her son. Their family and loved ones. And my Alec. It's said 'There are no words' because it's impossible to express the shock and heartache of such a tragic accident. Heartbreak. Loss. Support."

Further details of the tragic accident have also now emerged, with director of the film Joel Souza, who was also injured in the accident and taken to hospital, claiming that he heard "what sounded like a whip and then a loud pop" (according to a search warranted, reported by the LA Times). Joel then adds that the handgun was identified as "cold" (meaning there was supposedly no ammunition in it) as Alec began practicing removing the revolver from its holster and aiming toward the camera during a rehearsal.

Joel also paid tribute to his colleague, Halyna, and said in a later statement: "I am gutted by the loss of my friend and colleague, Halyna. She was kind, vibrant, incredibly talented, fought for every inch and always pushed me to be better. My thoughts are with her family at this most difficult time.

"I am humbled and grateful by the outpouring of affection we have received from our filmmaking community, the people of Santa Fe, and the hundreds of strangers who have reached out... It will surely aid in my recovery."

It has also emerged that the film's assistant director Dave Halls, who shouted "cold gun" (a term used to indicate a weapon is not loaded) and passed the gun to Alec, has previous film credits that include The Matrix Reloaded and The Crow: Salvation, a sequel to The Crow - which saw Bruce Lee's son, Brandon Lee, die on set in a similar firearms incident in the 90s.

Many are now calling for stricter and safer working conditions on set, in the hopes of preventing any further losses in future.

Our thoughts are with Halyna's loved ones at this very sad time.
