FILIPINA tennis sensation Alex Eala bounced back as she emerged with a pair of victories in the JA Milan tournament held at the Tennis Club Milano Alberto Bonacossa in Italy on late Tuesday night (Philippine time).
Fresh off a frustrating second round exit in the 2021 Wimbledon, the 16-year old dominated Brenda Fruhvirtova of the Czech Republic in straight sets, 6-1, 6-2, to move on to the second round of this clay court competition. Fruhvirtova is a 14-year old standout that is ranked no. 67 in the International Tennis Federation juniors standings.
Up next for Eala is 16-year old Canadian netter Kayla Cross. The two players have already clashed once with the Filipina getting the win in a three-set duel, 6-3, 5-7, 6-3, in the 2020 J1 Villena.
Eala was likewise superb in doubles action. Pairing with American netter Madison Sieg, the duo ousted the duo of Romanian Stefania Bojica and Portuguese netter Matilde Jorge, 6-1, 6-2, to advance to the next round where they will face off against the pair of Anastasiia Gureva and Ekaterina Maklakova from Russia.
