FILIPINA tennis star Alex Eala nabbed the girls’ singles crown with a dominant 6-3, 6-3 win over Nikola Bartunkova of the Czech Republic in the JA Trofeo Bonfiglio at the Tennis Club Milano Alberto Bonacossa on Sunday evening, July 18, 2021 (Philippine time), in Milan, Italy.

After winning the doubles title with American Madison Sieg with a thrilling 6-4, 4-6, 13-11 victory over Croatia's Lucija Ciric Bagaric and Sofia Costoulas of Belgium on Saturday night, the 16-year old methodically conquered her 15-year old opponent to bring her JA titles to four.

Eala, who is the no. 3 ranked juniors player in the world, did not take long to assert herself in the match as she took to a 5-1 lead in the first set before cruising to a 6-3 first set win. The second played similarly to the first as Eala zoomed off to a 3-0 lead before Bartunkova closed in at 3-5. The talented Filipina netter, though, would not be denied as she closed the match out in the ensuing game to win the second set, 6-3, and secure the championship in just under two hours. (JNP)
