Filipina tennis ace Alex Eala breezed past Spanish netter Ana Lantigua De La Nuez, 6-0, 6-2, in the third and final leg of the International Tennis Federation (ITF) W15 Manacor on Wednesday in Mallorca, Spain.
Eager to get back on the winning track after losing in the quarterfinals of the second leg of this very same competition, the 15-year old dominated her 20-year old opponent and kept her scoreless in the first set. With momentum on her side, Eala did not let up and eventually vanquished De La Nuez, who is ranked 52nd in ITF Singles.
The win pushed Eala to the second round where she will take on Germany’s Silvia Ambrosio who ousted the tournament’s top-seed, French Margot Yerolymos, 6-4, 6-3.
Eala is looking to continue her impressive run in the W15 Manacor circuit. She took home the crown in the first leg and bagged the $15,000 cash prize. She then made her way to the quarterfinals of the second round but was thwarted by Swiss Ylena In-Albon.
Eala’s fine play has not gone unnoticed as she is now ranked no. 942 in the Women’s Tennis Association (WTA) rankings, jumping 248 spots from no. 1190. (JNP)
