Filipina tennis sensation Alex Eala remained unstoppable in the JA Trofeo Bonfiglio as she won her singles and doubles matches on Wednesday night (Philippine time) to stay in title contention in the tournament held in Milan, Italy.

The 16-year-old Eala, who is the third-ranked juniors player in the world, barely broke a sweat in dispatching Canadian netter Kayla Cross, 6-1, 6-1, to book her spot in the third round. The victory was the second in a row for Eala over her Canadian rival, who she defeated in the J1 Villena in November 2020. Eala was so dominant that the match did not even reach an hour with the Filipina ending it in just 59 minutes.

Next up for Eala is Russian foe Ksenia Zaytseva who is ranked no. 44 in the International Tennis Federation juniors ladder.

Meanwhile, Eala and her partner, Madison Sieg of the United States, encountered trouble but still emerged victorious over the Russian pair of Anastasiia Gureva and Ekaterina Maklakova, 6-3, 3-6, 10-7. The Eala-Sieg tandem will next battle another Russian duo in Yaroslava Bartashevic and Ksenia Zaytseva in the quarterfinals. (JNP)
