Alex Eala’s incredible run in the JA Milan has seen her barge in the girls’ doubles finals after she and partner, Madison Sieg, upended the Russian duo of Kira Pavlova and Diana Shnaider, 6-3, 6-4, in the semifinals of the JA Milan at the Tennis Club Milano Alberto Bonacossa, in Milan, Italy on Friday night.
The 16-year old Eala and her American partner held their serve in the 10th game to end the match in just an hour and 18 minutes. They will be taking on Croatia’s Lucija Ciric Bagaric and Belgium’s Sofia Costoulas in the finals.
Eala is actually familiar with Costoulas as she beat the Belgian in a grueling three-set match, 7-6, 4-6, 6-4, to make her way to the semifinals in the girls’ singles competition. It was a tough outing that lasted nearly three hours but in the end, it was the Filipina that emerged with the win over Costoulas, who is the no. 14 ranked juniors player in the world.
It was a gritty win for Eala who trailed in the final set before taking over late to earn her ticket to the semifinals. The Filipina tennis star will be facing off against Russian netter Mirra Andreeva in the semifinals. (JNP)
