Filipina tennis sensation Alex Eala is set to showcase her prodigious skills once again as she competes in the pro tournament called the Trophee de la Ville in Grenoble, France on February 9.
Only 15 years of age, Eala has shown her skills to be way more than her age as she captured her very first championship on the pro tour when she won the first leg of the International Tennis Federation (ITF) W15 Manacor a few weeks ago. She also made it to the quarterfinal round of the second and third leg of the same competition but got ousted by older, more experienced opponents.
The third-ranked juniors player in the world, Eala was able to secure a slot in this pro competition through the junior exempt program of the ITF, which allows top-ranked juniors players to compete in a set number of pro tournaments every year. Eala’s juniors ranking allows her the chance to compete in three $25,000 and two $60,000 pro events this year.
The competition, though, get a lot tougher as Eala will be duking it out against players who are ranked in the top 100 to 200 of the Women's Tennis Association (WTA).
The last time Eala joined a $25,000 tournament was in November 2020 when she competed in the Las Palmas de Gran Canaria in Spain. However, she got ousted in the second round. (JNP)
