MANILA, Philippines - Alfred Vargas does not regret foregoing his showbiz career to serve the public as a politician.
Apparently, the still quite hunky former beefcake, currently serving as councilor in the Second District of Quezon City, believes it is his ''calling.''
So, talagang pinili kong bitawan ang showbiz talaga. It's really a big sacrifice [pero] wala, no regrets ako,'' he told PEP.
That said, Vargas intimated that he is open to making a comeback and re-establishing himself as among the more versatile actors of his generation.
He is hoping that he would eventually be able to do both together, at the same time], but for now he focusing on making good in his political career.
''Concentrate lang talaga 'ko. Gusto kong seryosohin ang public service,'' he said, relating that he enrolled himself in public administration classes at the University of the Philippines.
Vargas is among those that have announced early on their intention to run for a congressional seat in the upcoming 2013 elections.
''Gusto nila, bagong mukha. Bagong pag-asa.''
Many believe him a shoo-in as senator this early in his political career; still Vargas is mum about his future plans, opting to keep his cards close to his heart.
''Sa ngayon, happy na 'ko rito. Okay na siguro ang Quezon City muna,'' he said.
After the election, Vargas shared that he is marrying her partner Yasmine Espiritu-with whom he has two kids-in church rites.
''Kasal naman na kami, happy family. Pero siyempre, para sa kanya [Espiritu] 'yun.''
